Foster Care

In 2016, almost one out of every 100 children were in an Oregon foster care system, nearly double the national average. Moved by this need, over the last decade local churches and nonprofits have banded together to love and support foster children and their families in staggering ways! Below are a list of organizations that are working together alongside churches and foster families in the Portland Metro Area.

Every Child PDX
Every Child PDX mobilizes community to uplift children and families impacted by foster care in the Portland Metro Area. Every Child PDX invites the community to partner with Oregon’s Department of Human Services (ODHS) to aide vulnerable children in foster care and to support foster families. Everyone has something to bring to foster care — be it donating, volunteering, or by becoming a foster parent.

With Love
Many times, foster parents find out they are receiving a child mere hours before bringing them home. For that reason, they are often unprepared and overwhelmed. With Love supports foster families by providing safe, clean and quality clothing and supplies for children ages 0-6. Whether you’re looking to donate clothes, drop off goods, or help organize bundles in their warehouse, there are many ways for churches and volunteers to make a difference in the lives of foster children and their families.

Safe Families for Children

Safe Families for Children is a family preservation movement motivated by radical hospitality, disruptive generosity, and intentional compassion to keep children safe and families together. They bring church and community together mobilizing an army of volunteers to advocate for vulnerable children and socially isolated families. By partnering with families and churches, their goal is to grow a national movement of change agents passionate about protecting children and preserving families in communities across the nation and the world.
